Use CAT40 holders in BT40 spindle (no toolchanger)?

I have a mill with a BT40 spindle. Anyone know if I can use CAT40 holders
in it, with appropriate pullstuds? The mill does not have a tool changer.

Looks like I would have trouble with the pullstuds for starts. BT => metric
threads, CAT => english threads.

Thanks Wes (and PrecisionMachinist)!

They'll work fine, but CT=inch pull stud threads, and BT=metric threads.
The machine won't care however, so it's no big deal unless you try to
put CT pull studs in a BT tool.

Spindle taper is identical.

Probably not a problem....for most studs there are available threaded ones
to suit either style.

Do you know if the drive key geometry is the same?

The slots in my BT toolholders are .637 wide, perhaps clearance for a 16mm
drive key. When I get home tonight I will measure the spindle keys and post
again.

You won't have a problem. We do it every day. We've got CAT40 and BT40
Fadals, and a BT40 Sharnoa. We just can't use the tool changers if the
appropriate tool holder isn't being used. You said you don't have a tool
changer, so, you're all set.

Woman: "No, thanks, I've already got one ass-hole in there now."
