I have a 93 cincinnati milacron talon 208 lathe with an acramatic 850
SX control
I had a problem with a power failure last week. When I turned
everything back on the screen said initialization required. I had to
work through 2 alarms. One was initializing the spindle, which
required hitting the spindle restart and then the go button, the other
was the tailstock which was just pressing the button for it to retract
while hitting the go button. So then my machine turned on. Now I
can't get the tailstock or the chuck hydraulics active. Everytime I
execute anything in MDI it says chuck gripping, despite o.d. or i.d.
selected, despite open or close commands, despite advance or retract on
the tailstock. I disconnected the foot pedal to see if that was it but
nothing.

The tool measure is in its correct location,(closed) but it doesn't
really work anyhow. Any suggestions?

Are there prox switches near the actuator that need to be "made" when chuck
is open/closed?
Just a thought,

Good question, I don't know but I'll look around, I don't see how it
can decide its end points of a pressure chuck by a proximity though.

With the chuck open, check for the largest diameter that will fit in it,
then with the chuck closed check again. Find a piece of stock midway between
these two sizes and chuck on it. This should put any prox switches in their
proper state (if machine has them). This will save you some trouble, its a
simple check.

So, no hydraulic pressure? Was any wiring changed remedying the poweroutage?
Maybe the phase of the machine got changed and the hydraulic pump is
backwards?

Is the pump even running? If not, then you may have a breaker tripped, a
filter dirty, or a level sensor not working.
If all of that is good, then you need to start at the beginning, check
for all 3 phases, and follow the hyd electrical circuit. May be an enable
missing for the pump (e-stop switch?)
Any number of things at this point.
If you have internet access at the shop where the machine is, you can hop
on the IRC server and between the guys there you can probably
troubleshoot this thing fairly quickly.

You can't 'idiot proof' anything....every time you try, they just make

The prox switches should be on the end of the spindle tube, outboard of
the actuator.

Unless I'm wrong.

I'm new in these controller, so could you help me?
Thanks.
