I have cnc lathe with a Fanuc 21t control .The battery alarm came on today for
the z and x axis . I need to replace it before they go dead and lose positions.
I have 2 batterys in the control .1 on the servo control and 1 on the main
control .I assume the one i have to change is the battery in the servo control
is this correct? Or is it standard practice to replace both sets of batterys
when one goes down.I hear your in trouble if the pramater battery goes dead
.Also there is a battery store in my area I can get them from, or should I get
them from Fanuc .I know fanuc will cost alot more. The batterys are made by
panisonic.
THANKS in advance

As long as you replace them with the same type, use your favorite brand.
Make sure you DO NOT turn the control off until you have replaced the
batteries.

You can't 'idiot proof' anything....every time you try, they just make
better idiots.

I would also down load my parameter file before you change
the batteries.

I would also down load my parameter file before you change
the batteries.
1. no, not only parameter but also all your s-ram data
(PMC,offset,program,parameter,macro,p-code).
push your MDI key ( -> and F10{12keys 14" or 10.4"}or F5{7keys 9" or
7.5"}) when power on.
you can see Fanuc System Backup Screen.
insert your PCMCIA memory card(S-ram or Flash memory type) over
512Kbyte, select S-ram backup menu and go.
2. DO NOT POWER OFF under you have replaced the batteries.
3. when power on, IF there is a problem or alarm is occurred ONLY,
push your MDI key ( -> and F10{12keys 14" or 10.4"}or F5{7keys 9" or
7.5"}) wh power on.
insert the sram backup PCMCIA memory card, select S-ram restore menu and
go.

it it useful that all kinds of cnc data is backup,PMC
ladder/program/parameter/p-code and Fanuc system.

from old fanuc T/Mc cnc to current fanuc 32iMb/Tb, you can use memory card
for it.
RS232C use for data backup but not for fanuc system,p-code program.
Was i supposed to get that card when I bought the lathe. Or can I buy one
there are two type memory card. S-RAM memory card and flash memory card.
S-RAM :
order when I bought the machine.
it is higher cost.
Fujutsu maker. (1 Mbyte~4 Mbyte)
battery is needed.
support all kind of fanuc cnc.
support windows 98 os and notebook easily.

Compact Flash PCMCIA :
you can buy one anytime on your market.
it is low cost.
many maker but something do not work to cnc only for PC.
no battery
large size over 256Mbyte ( cnc do not support 1GBbyte in some case)
support windows XP but some thing do not support windows 98 and notebook.
you buy a socket and USB-PCMCIA connector fot PC.
