Hurco KMB1
(too old to reply)

I recently picked up an old Hurco KMB1, (Craigs list item), for home
use. Everything seems to work but I'm not sure about the auto oiler.
It seems to be controlled by a air solenoid valve operated by relay in
the control cabinet, but I'm not sure when it's supposed to
triggered. I don't have full schematics of this part of the system.
This mill is a 3 axis KMB1, but it has a moveable head, ie tilt fore
aft etc., similar to an SM1.

Hurco doesn't support kmb1's anymore, but allows their field techs to
freelance with kmb's. We've got a great one rahcheer in Yonkers, NY, and
there's a pricey guy in the midwest (MidWest cnc), and parts guys in FL and
GA. Hurco should give you a heads up as to who's near you.

I have only passing familiarity with kmb's; Stan Dornfeld is another kmb guy
here. But it may be that that relay shuts down the machine on low air, as
the spindle lube requires constant 90 psi.

I wouldn't trust automatic oil on an old mill like that. I was fooling
around inside a ten year old CNC mill a couple weeks ago and found one
broken, one cracked, and one disconnected oil line. Upon closer
inspection I also realized the disconnected oil line was clogged at
the manifold. With the leaking oil lines the system wasn't developing
much oil pressure so nothing was getting much oil. I'd double check
everything before you gall a ballscrew.

Now I've got this 2000 Yang lathe with *grease* lines to dig into. Z
axis has .010 backlash and sounds like a cement mixer...

Yeah; I was manually triggering the oiler and had turned up the air
pressure perhaps a bit to high and it blew the line feeding the head
out of the fitting. I didn't notice it right away because I was
behind the machine, but when I came around in front, I noticed it had
been squirting oil all over the schematic I had just been reading to
find the oiler relay...really ironic.

Suggest look for the relay that has a fucking timing dial on it.

Idiot.

There are often several relays with timers on them. In my case, none
of them are connected to an oiler. If you're as nasty as your online
*persona*, I feel bad for you.

No, no, you have it all wrong. Think Ignatz (Bipolar) and Krazy Kat (amc).
Or jb as the hapless coyote in RoadRunner.

Time for some thread drift....
Inyone remember Krazy Kat? Proly one of the greatest cartoons ever penned,
short of the budgetly-animated Rocky&Bullwinkle.

Leave us not forget Betty Boop, esp. the era when every 30th frame had her
nude -- no wonder the series was so subliminally popular!
