I'd like to go a little further with my mill programming education. A
friend said that Solidworks was easier to use than MasterCam for 3D
work. What do you guys think? I've been using various releases of MC
on a very basic level for over 20 years but never used anything else.

Crap, I can't see, I can't type. Why the hell do I need to educate
myself further on CAD work.

John,

Solidworks isn't a CAM system, It's a CAD system. You can get third party
CAM systems that work inside of it though.

Creation of 3D geometry isn't what I'd call "easier" as much as very
different. Solidworks is intended to design and model complete products.
Mastercam's limited (by comparison) 3D construction is intended more for
single parts.

I use both, each for it's intended purpose.
