IMNSHO the problem is that neither of the red and blue sock
puppets [AKA left and right] are now relevant to running an
effective government, and in fact neither can define what
such a government should do/be from the viewpoint of the
large majority of U. S. citizens. [Lots of assumptions, and
"I know what's best for you."]
Both are living in the past,and both are in deep denial of
the rapidly changing current geopolitical and socioeconomic
situations.
If this only effected the senile political parties and their
members it would be of minimal importance, on about the same
level as Radio Shack, JC Penny or K-Mart/Sears. Most
unfortunately, for not only the citizens of the U. S. but
the world, this irrelevance and denial has the potential
[and probability] of promoting/triggering catastrophes and
disasters such as WW3 [Ukraine, MidEast, South China Sea]
and/or a new and improved "Great Depression."
As a force in government, both the Democratic and Republican
parties are bankrupt. Bankrupt ethically, Bankrupt
intellectually. Bankrupt ideologically [empty slogans,
archaic concepts]. They do however agree on one point -
namely that the American Commonwealth was created and exists
only for their backers to loot.
Unless we want to wind up as a bigger and better version of
Argentina, Greece and Spain, it is critical that a new
continual political movement [not a biennial or quadrennial
personality cult party] be created which is not only data
driven, but has the long-term best self interests of the
majority of the U. S. citizens as its first priority.
Other critical items for the new movement include:
* Creation, or joining an existing clearinghouse/database of
corporate ruses/ploys/scams, their DI/ED [direct investment
/ economic development] performance v promise#, and their
tax avoidance/evasion techniques, with other comparable
national movements/parties;

* Sharing strategy and tactics successful in advancing the
majority interest in elections and plebiscites such as bond
approvals or Constitutional changes.
* Sharing strategy, tactics, and methodology in outreach
including areas such as political awareness education,
history, general education [G.E.D. tutoring?, ESL?], general
interest classes such as cooking and minor home repair,
citizens rights and responsibilities, etc. One of the major
benefits of such programs is the familiarization of the
groups involved with each other to prevent the increasingly
common use of wedge issues to "divide and rule," which puts
self-government at serious risk.
* Maximum interchange of information about devisive
propaganda campaigns, both governmental and private,
attempting to incite the citizens of one country against
another country, the themes/methods used, to the extent
possible the agencies/corporations/individuals accountable,
and possible motives [such as diverting attention from their
own failures/mistakes]. Examples include Germans v Greeks
and Latinos v WASPs.
